TCAC Spring Meeting: Cyber Insurance

At this meeting we will be joined by David Miller and Alicia Smith from Travelers Insurance who will speak to us about Cyber Insurance. Following their 

presentation, a representative from the Actuarial Foundation will talk to us about their Math Motivators program and how to get involved.

Presentation Summary:

Today, businesses face the growing risk of cyber threats, from data breaches to ransomware attacks. Cyber insurance offers financial protection and security support to mitigate these risks. Alicia Smith and David Miller will cover the fundamentals of this product, including coverage options, cyber vulnerabilities, and the cyber claim process. In addition, the presenters will provide a snapshot of industry trends and the state of the market today.

About the speakers:

David Miller is an Actuary at Travelers Insurance working on the CyberRisk product. He studied actuarial science at the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire and joined Travelers full-time after graduating in 2020. David moved to Cyber in 2022 and has supported rate filings, rate adequacy analysis, and loss trend selections. Outside of work and studying for CAS exams, David likes to spend time outdoors and explore national parks with his wife.

Alicia Smith has served as Cyber Claim Counsel at Travelers for the last three years. Prior to joining Travelers, Alicia was a litigator. She spent two years prosecuting attorney discipline matters at the Office of Lawyers Professional Responsibility, and nearly five years as an associate at Arthur Chapman Kettering Smetak & Pikala, P.A., an insurance defense law firm in Minneapolis. Alicia is a proud Gopher, having graduated from the University of Minnesota for both college and law school.
